Printer manual: What does each letter mean?

We understand that choosing a printer is difficult for you, especially when you are considering whether to choose an inkjet or laser? Wondering how to decipher the string of letters in the name? Below you will find a ''glossary of letters'' that you will understand in no time!

Each letter that follows the printer model number represents a function that the printer is capable of performing. The combination of letters means that the printer can run multiple functions, which will be expanded later. 

 

 

 

 

Below are the meanings of the individual letters that you will likely encounter:

1) B = Battery

This means that the printer can be powered by a battery if needed.

2) BT = Bluetooth

Allows printing via Bluetooth.

3) C = Color

The printer can print in color and in black.

4) D = Duplex

This means that the printer will automatically print on both sides of the page without you having to turn the sheet over manually.

5) F = Fax

Allows faxing between documents via the printer.

6) H = Hard Disk Hard Disks

Printers provide a range of functions, such as user profiles, scheduled print jobs, and storing faxes if the ink runs out.

7) i = Card slots (display)

Allows you to insert a memory card into the printer. Not all printers display this letter, even if they have a card slot, so it is best to check and just encapsulate.

8) MFP = Multifunction Printer

Typically an all-in-one printer that usually allows, among other things, scanning, copying, and faxing.

9) N = Network

This means that the printer will be supplied with some form of network functionality, usually a Wi-Fi connection or an Ethernet port. However, be careful when 'w' follows 'n' (nw), because this does not guarantee a physical Ethernet port.

10) S = Stacker or Stapler

This corresponds to one of two functions. This implies either that it has a stapler or that it has a stacker that enables high-volume printing.

11) SK = Stacker and Stapler

For SK, both the stacker and stapler are included; it usually appears on high-volume laser printers.

12) T = Extra tray

This means that your printer will have an additional paper tray, which gives you space for another ream of paper.

13) W = Wireless

Printer with wireless connectivity.

14) X = Duplex, Extra Tray and Networking

A combination of the above terms; formerly known as "dtn", but changed to "x" because it was considered confusing. X may also refer to other functions, so check this in advance.
