How to print address labels for packages in your e-shop?

If you are planning to start your own e-shop or have already started one, then congratulations for sure, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the store runs as it should. If, like 99% of other e-shops, you will be physically shipping goods or your products, you will certainly use one of the carriers. Among the most popular in the Czech Republic are certainly Czech Post, Zásilkovna, PPL, DPD, GLS, and others. But they all have one thing in common. Everyone will want you to stick a label, or address tag, on the package with the customer’s address, your address, the cash-on-delivery amount, and other information.

And that brings us to the heart of the matter. What is the easiest way to make such a label?

 1) Print on regular paper and attach with adhesive tape

If you send only a few packages per month, you can use this option. You simply print the address on regular paper and print it out. Then you take scissors, adhesive tape, and … And you can probably feel for yourselves that this is not exactly professional, and due to the lengthy work of attaching it to the package, it is quite time-consuming.

On the other hand, it is a relatively inexpensive solution, and almost everyone has access to a regular inkjet or laser printer to print it out.

Do you like this solution, or should we go for a better one instead?

2) Self-adhesive labels on A4

You definitely want the result to look better and be easier for you to stick onto the package. And also held well on the package.

Many e-shop owners have already gone down this path, and if you don’t print dozens of labels every day, this option can certainly suit you for quite a long time.

In terms of price, this option is inexpensive, and thanks to a standard inkjet or laser printer, the acquisition costs are not too high either.

Self-adhesive labels are arranged on A4 sheets in sets of 4, 8, or 16 pieces. It always depends on what size your carrier requires from you. The standard used to be 10x15 cm, but for Zásilkovna, for example, 10x13 cm or even smaller will certainly be sufficient.

The disadvantage remains that you always have to hit the correct position on the paper. And if you print a smaller number of labels more often, that is not entirely ideal either. It is possible to print all labels at once in the afternoon before pickup. But what about until then? Have packages all over the warehouse and keep track of which one is for whom?

3) Self-adhesive labels on rolls

Has your e-shop really taken off and are you already sending out dozens or even hundreds of shipments a day? Congratulations again.

But what about those address labels? Waiting and then printing a larger quantity all at once is no longer that comfortable. If you don't create the label right away, packages end up lying all around you, you mix something up, etc. That is certainly not ideal.

Now it’s time for a professional solution. Label printers. These are printers that can print only on labels in rolls, nothing else. But it can do it really quickly. Each label separately. And above all, they do not contain any filling. So these printers print for FREE (yes, you’re right, they do consume a bit of electricity, so it’s not completely free). How it works is described in the article Why Some Printers Print Without Ink Cartridges. All they need are special self-adhesive heat-sensitive labels.

Even with this solution, you can choose the ideal size for your carrier and thus save on paper. Of course, the smaller the labels are, the cheaper they will be. Again, 10x15 or 10x13 cm are more or less the standard. Most carriers fit on them.

This solution is therefore very inexpensive to operate. It is beneficial for both printing speed and comfort.

A minor disadvantage is the initial investment in purchasing a label printer. It ranges from approximately 5.000 and above. You see, it’s not that terrible after all, and the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, so it will pay for itself very soon.

If you want to put one of the solutions into practice, don't hesitate to call or write. For each client, we always propose the most advantageous solution. I will be happy to advise you.

May your e-shop business thrive.
