Brother MFC, DCP and HL. What? Of course...

You probably already know that Brother is among the world’s top manufacturers of printers and multifunction devices in its field. In this article, however, we would like to devote more attention to them, as they are enormously popular here. How can you make sense of them based on their product names? What do, for example, MFC, DCP, or HL mean? Let's take a look at it together...

Classification of Brother laser printers and multifunction devices by designation

In Brother's portfolio, we can find both laser printers (single-function - print function only) and laser multifunction devices.

  • Brother HL are basic Brother laser printers that include printing only.
  • Brother DCP are laser multifunction devices that, in addition to printing, can also scan and copy documents.
  • Brother MFC, like Brother laser multifunction printers labeled DCP, also include, in addition to printing, scanning, and copying, an extra function: FAX. Some also allow printing via Wi-Fi for easy and fast printing directly from mobile devices.

All of these printers have one thing in common: they are more suitable for smaller offices or households, where we typically print a smaller volume of documents.

  • Brother HL-L, DCP-L, MFC-L - For these printers, simply add the letter "L" and we immediately have laser printers and multifunction devices that are faster and more powerful for work in larger companies and corporations. What is exceptional about them? Not only have the wonderful people at Brother added wireless connectivity to most of them, but some also feature an additional paper tray.
  • Brother HL-B - Printers marked with "B" are part of the TonerBenefit series, which is a major innovation from Brother. But what does that mean for us? With these laser devices, you will achieve faster and at the same time quieter operation and above all economical printing. But that is far from everything. The printers are equipped with a new laser beam, which was developed to last as long as possible, and also with a starter toner.
  • Brother DCP-B - Not only are these Brother laser multifunction devices equipped as standard with a scanner and copier, but they also include everything that Brother HL-B printers have - a starter toner, faster and at the same time quieter operation, economical printing, and a new improved laser beam. Yes, these multifunction devices are also part of the TonerBenefit program. Isn't it a dream?

TIP: "You won't start your car with a starter toner, but..."

All of these printers are already tailor-made for larger companies and institutions. It pays off mainly thanks to greater cost-effectiveness in cases where you need to print a larger volume of required documents in the shortest possible time.

Classification of Brother inkjet multifunction printers by designation

Brother's product range includes only inkjet multifunction printers.

  • Brother MFC-J and DPC-J are inkjet multifunction printers that include not only printing functions, but, just like laser printers, also offer scanning, copying, and faxing capabilities. They are suitable for printing in households (e.g. family photographs) or in smaller offices (e.g. color documents, photographs).
  • Brother MFC-J and DPC-J - No, it is not a typo. Brother inkjet multifunction printers, which are designed for larger companies (e.g. graphic studios), which use more efficient printing, have the same product designation. In addition to the above-mentioned features, they also offer the option of wireless connection, and some additionally include additional paper feeders and allow printing up to A3 media size.

  • Brother MFC-T and DCP-T are inkjet multifunction printers with a tank system. This means that, unlike other inkjet devices, they have built-in ink tanks. What is the advantage? You don't need to buy separate cartridges and replace them every time they run out; instead, you only need to refill the corresponding tank with an individual color bottle. In addition, separate ink refills in the form of bottles are available at more favorable prices while also offering a larger ink volume than cartridges can provide. Inkjet multifunction printers with a tank system will therefore certainly save you time, effort, and above all costs when printing larger volumes.
