From the history of thermal printing
Zink technology and Zink Imaging began as a project within the Polaroid Corporation in the 1990s, which in 2005 developed into Zink Imaging as a completely independent company.
It was used in Polaroid instant cameras - known from American films for nostalgics!

Thermal Printing Technology
The paper consists of several layers:
* a base layer with optional pressure-sensitive adhesive
* a heat-sensitive layer with cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes in a colorless form
* a layer ensuring the final surface

Color development is achieved by controlling the duration and intensity of the thermal impulse.

The colors forming the layers contain colorless crystals of amorphochromic dyes. These dyes form microcrystals of their colorless tautomers, which are converted to the colored form by melting and retain the color after rewrapping.

The yellow layer is the highest, sensitive to short thermal impulses of high temperature.
The magenta (purple) layer is in the middle, sensitive to longer pulses of milder temperature.
The azure (blue) layer is at the very bottom, sensitive to long pulses of lower temperature.
The layers are separated by thin interlayers that act as thermal insulation, reducing the applied heat.
