The black self-fusing insulating tape 3M Scotch 23 is designed for the reconstruction of cable insulation up to 69 kV, repair of cable jackets, and for perfect moisture sealing. The easily removable protective cover film (liner), nicknamed "snake skin," facilitates the correct application of the tape when stretching it before wrapping. The tape has excellent electrical and thermal properties and is suitable for creating additional insulation on all common cable materials (core and sheath). When wound with at least 100% elongation, it quickly forms a homogeneous, compact insulating mass where the individual layers merge with each other. Suitable for winding on primary insulation in joints and terminations with cable sheath made of XLPE or rubber. It works well even when isolating multi-core cables, using torn smaller pieces of tape.

The tape has very good resistance to oil and solvents, and it is also very well resistant to weather conditions.
